Tom Watson Shoots 66 at U.S. Senior Open - Golf Channel (press release) (blog)

There's a familiar name atop the early leaderboard at the U.S. Senior Open.

Tom Watson, 65, came within one shot of shooting his age, opening with a 4-under 66 at Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, Calif. He needed just 26 putts to complete his round.

Watson overcame an early double bogey to move to the top of the standings, carding four birdies over his inward half to sit one shot ahead of a number of players at 3 under, including two-time U.S. Open champ Lee Janzen. Watson, who won the U.S. Open in 1982, has never won this event, finishing second in 2002, 2003 and 2006.

Watson's last Champions Tour victory came back at the 2011 Senior PGA Championship, and he hasn't recorded a top-10 finish in four Champions Tour starts this season. 

Watson nearly became the oldest player to ever win a major at the 2009 Open Championship, and with 54 holes still to play in temperatures that are expected to eclipse 100 degrees, he could become the oldest winner of a Champions Tour major. That record currently belongs to Jock Hutchison, who won the 1947 Senior PGA Championship at age 62, while Allen Doyle became the oldest U.S. Senior Open champ when he won in 2006 at age 57.

The media centre at the 2013 PGA Show was buzzing yesterday.  Not because of anything that happened at the show.  God forbid! Sarah Stirk Nipple Gate: Navy Top Leaves Viewers Disappointed

London: Sky Sports management this morning issued a statement  apologizing to subscribers after Sarah Stirk wore a navy dress live on air.  It is believed up to 60,000 horny golfers were left limp after they tuned in to final round coverage of the Valero Texas Open in the hope of getting a glimpse of the legendary Stirk starter buttons. “I pay my subscription, I’m bloody well entitled to see Sarah’s Wimbledon strawberries” said factory worker Paul Manning 52 from Hereford. “I even missed the ten minute freeview, coz my mate Derek tweeted that Stirk was going into the shot centre for ten minutes at 11pm”. The Sky statement read: We apologize unreservedly for the navy dress Sarah wore during last nights broadcast, through which no nipples were visible. This was due to a wardrobe malfunction. Holly Sonders Quits Golf Channel After Contract Talks Fail. Moves To Fox.

Tissues at the ready guys as this will come as a shock to you all that Holly Sonders , the female face of the Golf Channel, has quit and reportedly taken a job with Fox Sports. According to  reports Sonders, who appeared regularly on “Morning Drive” since 2011, could not come to an agreement on a new contract deal with the Golf Channel and was quickly snapped up by Fox Sports where she is expected to work on golf and NFL.
