Punter Watch: Shane Lowry Among Five Players Receiving Open Championship Spots

Absolutely brilliant news for Shane Lowry today with confirmation of his place in the 2014 Open Championship field.

Shane's performance in Germany last week was good enough to qualify him through the Race To Dubai rankings along with Rafa Cabrera Bello and Pablo Larrazabal.

Kevin Na and Brendon Todd also make the field via the FedEx points race.

Lowry is in super form, has played in two previous Opens, finished in the thirties on both occasions and is a live contender to do even better this time around.

Rafael Cabrera-Bello, Pablo Larrazábal, and Shane Lowry have secured exemptions into The Open Championship through the Race to Dubai rankings and Brendon Todd and Kevin Na will take their places in the field through FedExCup points.
At the conclusion of the BMW International in Germany at the weekend, Spain’s Cabrera-Bello and Larrazábal and Ireland’s Lowry confirmed their spots in The Open which will be played from 17-20 July at Royal Liverpool.
Cabrera-Bello, Larrazábal and Lowry were the top players, not already exempt, within the top 20 of the European Tour’s Race to Dubai. Cabrera-Bello will make his third Open Championship appearance at Hoylake after finishing tied for 21st in 2013 at Muirfield. The 30-year-old is a two-time winner on the European Tour and finished runner-up to Fabrizio Zanotti following a play-off yesterday at the BMW International.
Larrazábal’s best result at The Open came in 2011 at Royal St George’s where he finished tied 30th. The 31-year old has won three events on the European Tour including the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship in January 2014. Lowry has made two previous Open Championship starts and finished tied 32nd in 2013. He is a two-time winner on the European Tour and finished runner-up at the BMW PGA Championship last month.
Todd and Na secured their places at The Open at the conclusion of the Travelers Championship as the top players, not already exempt, in the top 20 of the PGA TOUR FedExCup points list.
Todd, a two-time winner on the Web.com Tour, will make his Open Championship debut this year. The 28-year-old American earned his first victory on the PGA TOUR in May at the HP Byron Nelson Championship.
Na, 30, has made three previous Open appearances and his best result was tied 27th at St Andrews in 2010. The South Korea-born American finished runner-up at the 2014 Memorial Tournament after a play-off with Hideki Matsuyama and has a single victory on the PGA TOUR, the Nationwide Tour and the Asian Tour.
