thumbA lot of people are asking me,”Should I back Tiger for The Open?”

He is at 8/1 for the Championship, long odds by Tiger Woods standards.

For Backing Tiger

Against Backing Tiger

He has four wins already this year, The Farmers, WGC Cadillac, The Arnold Palmer and The Players.

His last win came mid May. In the two tournaments he’s played since, The Memorial and US Open, he hasn’t shot one round in the 60’s and finished a combined 21 over par.

He is well rested after the US Open.

Perhaps too rested after an elbow injury. Many argue that match fitness, ie playing tournament golf, is key to winning Majors.

Of his 14 Major wins, three have been Open Championships; 2000, 2005 and 2006

It is now seven years since his last Open win. Two of the wins have been at St Andrews, the other at Hoylake when 18 under won.

Since last winning The Open, Tiger was twice forced to miss with injury in 2008 and 2011 and tied third in 2012

He missed the cut in 2009.

He leads a whole host of stats on the PGA Tour including holes per eagle, scoring average, all around ranking, money won. Is second in total putting and GIR percentage from inside 125 feet.

He lies 104th in GIR percentage from 175-200 yards, 119th in scrambling from >30 yards, 102nd in proximity to hole when hitting from 75-100 yards, 128th from 125-150 yards

He’s in a good place mentally with girlfriend Lindsey and continues to rebuild his personal life.

Severe damage was done prior to 2007.

Hope that helps!
