Pic: New TaylorMade SLDR Driver Versus Mizuno MP630 Fast Track

TaylorMade have a new driver.  Mid season.  Which means they’re not that sure how it will be received!

It’s called the SLDR which I’m guessing is SLIDER minus some vowels. The SLDR is a prototype driver that will be offered to pros on both European and PGA Tours this week.  But is it really new?

On first glance the sliding weight system on the sole of the SLDR is remarkably similar to Mizuno’s Fast Track technology as used on the MP630 Driver. Okay, Mizuno’s weighting system slides around the back perimeter of the driver whereas the SLDR  sliding weight is located in a rail much closer to the face.  The 460cc SLDR has 16 different weight notches, is glossy grey and has adjustable lofts.

So here’s my take.  Given that TaylorMade are releasing the SLDR driver mid season, and given that it is 460cc, which not many of the pros use,  I’m going out on a limb here to suggest that the SLDR is aimed at the game improvement market rather than the Tour and will be in a golf shop near you very soon!
