The European Tour is using a shotgun start for the third round of the Portugal Masters
The average weekend hacker is probably pretty used to playing a round of golf using a shotgun start. The average tour pro? Not so much.
But those teeing it up at this week's Portugal Masters will have to make a quick adjustment before Saturday's third round due to expected bad weather. Here's the sensible, but unusual announcement from the European Tour:
So the leaders get the honor of starting on the first tee, but everyone else is beginning on a different hole. Interesting.
It's an odd thing to venture out to some far-off hole (Hopefully, a golf cart is involved) to begin a round of golf, but once you start, it's not that bad. You'll only really notice at the end if you finish far away from the clubhouse. Again, hopefully, a golf cart is involved.
