Pictures: Rory McIlroy To Debut New Prototype Nike Method 006 Putter At WGC Matchplay
Rory McIlroy will use a new version of the Nike Method 006 putter this week at the WGC Accenture World Matchplay. After switching his original Nike Method 006 putter out of the bag in favour of his old Scotty Cameron after just one round in Dubai, McIlroyâs team of Nike chefs put on their aprons and headed back into The Oven with the remit to come up with something the world number one would be more comfortable with.

The putter McIlroy will use in Arizona will have the aesthetics of the retail version of the Nike Method 006, but donât be fooled. Itâs not the same.
The new prototype has a standard plumbers neck with a thinner topline and is more rounded around the edges (not unlike the Scotty Cameron). It is 6 grams heavier than the original Method 006 he used in Abu Dhabi. Unlike the âmidnightâ colour of the retail version of this putter, Roryâs is a bright stainless steel. It also has an in shaft hosel.
However the most controversial feature of the putter is that Nikeâs face lines seem to have the âappearanceâ of being painted/printed on to the milled stainless steel face. Small grooved score lines are present, and while my official Nike source says that the putter does have grooves, they appear in no way as deep as the retail version. Look closely!
Rory also had a lesson to fine tune the new putter from putting coach Dave Stockton.
