Lee Westwood to fall out of top 50 in World Ranking, Masters streak in

“There’s been some serious bubble shifting with tournament winners Emiliano Grillo, Justin Thomas, Russell Knox and Victor Dubuisson vaulting into the top 50 [in the World Ranking] in recent weeks and pushing a few guys out in their quest to reach the Masters by the year-end deadline,” Scott Michaux of the Augusta Chronicle writes. Among those who have been pushed out for now? Lee Westwood, who has played ever year since 2004. He will fall out of the top 50 this week for the first time since 2007.

English golf is on the rise, James Corrigan of the Telegraph reports. “England will boast a record number of representatives in the top 60 of the European Tour standings who will contest the season-ending DP World Tour Championship this week…Eight of the 17 Englishman are aged 30 years or younger, pointing to a future in which hopes will not only be piled on Justin Rose, Lee Westwood, Luke Donald, Ian Poulter and Co.”

Sergio Garcia ranks 30th on the European Tour’s Order of Merit and as such has qualified to play in the 60-man field in the finale of the the Race to Dubai, the DP World Tour Championship. Yet he isn’t going. It’s the second time in three years that he has eschewed playing in the event. Ewan Murray of the Guardian has the story.
