Former U.S. Amateur champion Gunn Yang left San Diego State (without turning pro) to play professional events around the world, but after doing so has decided to return to college golf, Tod Leonard of the San Diego Union-Tribune writes. â[H]is Korean parents donât speak English, and his San Diego-based instructor, Glen Daugherty, doesnât speak Korean, but they used almost the exact same words to advise him. âYour education is important. Youâre putting too much pressure on yourself. Give your golf game time to mature.ââ
Boo Weekley blasted the PGA Tourâs wraparound schedule, and though he might have a point, itâs the tourâs job to create lucrative playing opportunities. âItâs in the Tourâs DNA, all the way down to the circuitâs mission statement filed with the Internal Revenue Service,â Rex Hoggard of Golf Channel writes. ââThe [Tourâs] principal mission is to promote the sport of professional golf through sanctioning and administering golf tournaments,â the statement begins. Itâs a job those who walk the halls of the Tourâs Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., headquarters have gotten very good at; this seasonâs schedule features 47 events, from Octoberâs season-opening Frys.com Open to the Tour Championship next September.â

Dustin Johnson will host a junior golf tournament in Myrtle Beach early next year, aimed in part at bringing Chinese juniors there. âHis coach at Coastal Carolina, Allen Terrell, has been coming to Shanghai for six years to teach at Sheshan International and to educate families on how their children can get golf scholarships in America,â Doug Ferguson of the Associated Press writes.
