Jack's advice to Tiger: Please fix yourself - Golf Channel (press release) (blog)
DUBLIN, Ohio â" Tiger Woods has not been heard from since he walked off the 18th green with an 85 in the third round of the Memorial, but if he tuned in to the telecast he would have received some advice from the tournamentâs host.
Jack Nicklaus has often shared tips with younger players, including Woods. Nicklaus spoke at length about Woodsâ current woes and says he believes the best solution is to simplify things.
âTigerâs running from teacher to teacher. In todayâs technology, I think Tiger just needs to go back and review some of his own things rather than listen to somebody else,â Nicklaus said. âHeâs the only one inside him who knows whatâs really going on. Heâs the only one whoâs been able to fix what heâs got.â
Woods has been working with swing consultant Chris Como since November, and Saturday he failed to break 80 for the second time this season. Nicklaus feels that Woodsâ biggest problem is his lack of competitive rounds, but he believes Woods will eventually get back on track.
âI think heâll get it back, I still do,â Nicklaus said. âHeâs just too focused, heâs too hard of a worker, and heâs got such a great work ethic. Itâs just going to be a lesson for him.â
Nicklaus closed his comments with a sort of plea to Woods, who has won this event five times but will begin the final round 27 shots behind leader Justin Rose.
âHeâs got to help himself, and heâs got to get where he can take the golf club, and take it back and know where the ball is going,â Nicklaus said. âPlease go do that, because the game needs you, Tiger. Youâre a good player, youâre a good guy and we miss the game youâve been playing.â
