Georgia into NCAA golf semifinals - Atlanta Journal Constitution
BRADENTON, Fla. - Georgia advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA golf championship with a 4-1 win over South Florida in the match-play quarterfinals Tuesday morning at the Concession Golf Club.
The No. 3 seed Bulldogs will play No. 7 seed LSU, which upset No. 2 seed Vanderbilt in another quarterfinal. Georgia and LSU were scheduled to face each other Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. for a spot in Wednesdayâs finals, but a lightning delay pushed the start back to 2:10 p.m. The Bulldogs are pursuing their third menâs golf national title.
Georgia took control early, winning the first hole in four of the five matches against the No. 6 seed Bulls. The winning points were provided by Sepp Straka (3&2 winner over Chase Koepka), Zach Healy (2&1 winner over Trey Valentine) and Lee McCoy (4-up over Ryan Fricker). Healy and McCoy led the entire way, and Straka was in the lead for all but two holes.
The final two matches â" Georgiaâs Mookie DeMoss over Claudio Correa and South Floridaâs Rigel Fernandes over Greyson Sigg â" were conceded.
