NIke 2013 Covert Driver First Pics and Review

Nike have revealed their new red crown VR_S Covert Performance and VR_S Covert Tour drivers. The ‘Performance’ version features a 460cc head and silver face, while the ‘Tour’ edition, has a 430cc head, black face and a non adjustable weight plug on the sole.

The most striking feature of the club is on the sole where a chunk of the back-middle has been taken away, almost like a perimeter weighted putter head.  I’m sure that because all the weight is now in the heel and toe (or wings) we will hear a big play about the driver’s increased Moment Of Inertia, or resistance to twist at impact as a result.

Unlike other drivers, the centre of gravity in the Nike’s Covert driver simply cannot be placed low and back, because there is no low and back on this club.  This more forward placed CG will mean the Covert flies on a lower, more penetrating trajectory favoured by pros and better players.

The Nike Covert driver features an adjustable hosel that lets you change the face angle to right, left or neutral and also allows the loft to be adjusted between between 8.5° and 12.5°.

The stock shaft for the Covert driver is the Mitsubishi Diamana Kura Kage shaft.
