Winners and losers from the Arnold Palmer Invitational

This past weekend saw a lot of great story lines and we are here to give you the good and the bad of it. Here are our winners and losers from the past week in golf. Winners Matt Every -- It was complete carnage on Sunday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, with big names falling down the leaderboard faster than the favorites at the NCAA Tournament. Every simply stood his ground as best he could, posting a final round 70 that landed him his first ever PGA Tour win.  Henrik Stenson -- After his incredible 2013, things haven't been as easy for Stenson, who had yet to finish in the top-10 on the PGA Tour in '14 until Sunday at Bay Hill. His final round 68 in those tough conditions jumped him 10 spots on the leaderboard and in a T-5, a good sign considering what tournament is just around the corner for all these top players.  Sean O'Hair -- His final round 67 was the low score score of the day along with Camilo Villegas, and it landed him in the top-10 of a PGA Tour tou...

Pic: Davis Love Tries To Let The Air Out Of Poulter’s Ferrari Tyres

Image
As payback for his great putting at Medinah, Davis Love tried to play a practical joke on Ian Poulter by tweeting a photo of him letting the air out of one of his Ferrari tyres. Follow @golfcentraldoc But you need to be super stealthy to fool our Ian, who was back like a shot at DL3 to tweet that holing those Ryder Cup putts was an easier task than Davis would have even taking the air caps off the wheels! Stuart Manley made hole-in-one at World Cup of Golf, follows it up with 11 on next hole

Image
Most of the time in golf, writing down a "1" on the scorecard is a good thing, but we had that rare instance in Melbourne where three "1s" in a row turned out to be a big negative. Stuart Manley, the 346th ranked golfer in the world from Wales, got himself into contention at the World Cup of Golf at Royal Melbourne on Saturday thanks to his tee shot on the par-3 3rd hole. As you can see below, Manley's tee shot found the bottom of the cup for the rare hole-in-one, and despite celebrating with the car behind him, didn't even get to keep it because the contest for the new Mercedes-Benz was only open to competitors that made the ace on Sunday. Not getting a free car was a bummer, but what happened next was even worse. Manley followed up his hole-in-one with an 11 on the next hole, a septuple-bogey that dropped him well down the leaderboard after getting as high as a tie for second thanks to that ace. How did he make the 11? We will let the Daily Mai...

Video: The Matt Every 338 Yard All Or Nothing Drive That Triggered Win

Image
They say you drive for show and putt for dough but Matt Every stood over his four footer for par and the win at Bay Hill knowing he had holed 53 out of 53 inside six feet for the week. And in the pressure cooker with Arnie watching on he missed. But in the end, his total of 13 under could not be bettered. Follow @golfcentraldoc That was in large part thanks to this  338 yard drive, within feet out of the out of bounds, that lead to a run of four birdies in the next five holes. Every grew up only an hour away from the course at Daytona Beach and this was the first event he every played on the PGA Tour when his Dad dropped him off in his car. What a great one to win! You definitely do drive for dough too sometimes.   Technorati Tags: Video , Matt Every 338 Yard drive , 2014 Arnold Palmer Invitational

Quick Get The Shredder. Wind Farm Planned For Trump’s Doonbeg

Image
Oh dear Donald Trump is not going to be too pleased to hear that an application has been made to Clare County Council for nine wind turbines just two kilometres from Doonbeg. Trump who fell out with Scotland  after losing a legal battle to stop a wind farm being built off the coast of his Trump course in Aberdeen, now faces the prospects of nine 85 metre high turbines with 82 metre blades inland of the Doonbeg course . I found the actual application , by Clare Coastal Wind Power Ltd, which states: "For grant of a ten year planning permission for development at a site in the townlands of Carrowmore South, Einagh and Shragh, approximately 2 km south of the village of Doonbeg. A decision is due on the proposal on March 30th. Don’t worry though Donald, this is Ireland.  We’ll get it sorted out for ya.  Now where’s that shredder?   Technorati Tags: Clare Coastal Power , Donald Trump , Doonbeg Golf Club , wind turbines

Video: On The Volley Trick Shot Kids Eric Angeles and Zachary Christman Are Back

Image
The on the volley trick shot kids are back with new video on YouTube. I’ve had some great trick shots by kids lately by Dude Perfect , a guy with some frying pans and a kid called William Rainey hitting an american football through a basketball hoop but these two kids, Eric Angeles and Zachary Christman, are the gold standard it would seem. No CGI here! Follow @golfcentraldoc posted by Pinehurst 1895   Technorati Tags: Eric Angeles , Zachary Christman , golf trick shot , video

Cancer survivor Jarrod Lyle returns to professional golf

Image
The golf world will get a special treat on Thursday morning at Royal Melbourne when Jarrod Lyle returns to golf after 20 months away battling myeloid leukemia. Lyle, a 32-year-old professional golfer from Australia, had to step away from the game when he was diagnosed with cancer for the second time (he first was diagnosed when he was 17) and while it has been a serious battle, the kind-hearted Lyle is just excited about getting back to the game and trying to play it again for a living. His first goal is holding it together on the first tee on Thursday. "Just walking to that first tee and teeing the ball up and trying to hit it -- that's probably going to be the hardest thing," Lyle said on Tuesday. "It's just going to let a whole lot of stuff out. Hopefully when that ball flies I can just get on to playing golf and put everything behind me and just get back to the golfer that I am." Lyle has played in 102 career PGA Tour events, carding five top-...
