Donald Trump says golf world has supported him after disparaging remarks ... - For The Win
Businessman-turned 2016 presidential candidate Donald Trump has been facing a trove of criticism since his controversial remarks about Mexican immigrants in his campaignâs launch speech two weeks ago.
âWhen Mexico sends its people, theyâre not sending their best,â Trump said to the assembled New York crowd. âTheyâre bringing drugs. Theyâre bringing crime. Theyâre rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.â
Univision pulled its coverage of Trumpâs co-owned Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants after the comments â" which resulted in Trump banning Univision employees from his golf courses and filing a $500 million lawsuit against the company. NBC announced on Monday that it would also end its relationship with Trump.
Golf Channel reporter Tim Rosaforte caught up with Trump, who owns a number of golf courses around the world that host a series of big events, to see if heâs faced similar backlash from within the golf. And, according to Trump, he hasnât:
âIâve had tremendous support from the golf world, because they all know Iâm right,â Trump said. âIâve been great to golf. Iâve been investing while everybody else was fleeing.â
The support has not been met in the business world. Both Univision and NBCUniversal severed ties with Trump earlier this week.
He continued:
âI havenât heard one negative thing and frankly I donât expect to.â
