Nelson Mandela Championship Betting Preview and Tips
Note: Starts Wednesday 11th December- Saturday 14th December
Richard Finch 30/1
Following a great showing at the Perth International (T7) Finchy has come through Q School with flying colours and has set about avoiding it next year by already scoring a solo second at the Alfred Dunhill Championship and a T8 last week at the Hong Kong Open. Thereâs a massive chance this week for the Englishman to bag his first win since the 2008 Irish Open.
Romain Wattel 25/1
Hard to believe that Romain is already on 80 European Tour starts this week and heâs definitely a star for the future. The Frenchman clocked up five top 10 finishes during the 2013 season including going close at The Ballantines and in Austria. Started the 2014 season with a T3 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship and following a week off should be right up for another tilt at a maiden Tour win.
Stuart Manley 50/1
Bookies obviously think Stuart Manley doesnât have much of a chance this week, but I beg to differ. His T8 at the World Cup of Golf included an 11 in the third round following a hole in one; that says to me hereâs a man with enough confidence in his game to keep things going during periods of adversity. The Welshman backed up his credentials by dramatically getting into the three man playoff in Hong Kong last week. PP may not fancy Stuartâs chances, but I do. Time for justice Golfing Gods!
Jâbe Jruger 33/1
I think even Jâbe himself would subscribe to the theory that heâs an Africa specialist; 2013 must have been so hard for him missing every cut from the Nordea Masters in May to the Italian Open at the end of September. However his T2 at the South African Open has given his confidence a boost and with two cuts made since, might be a dark horse this week.
Soren Hansen 33/1
Soren Hansen had a hit and miss season mixing plenty of decent golf with missed cuts. However since a pair of 66âs in Portugal in October, the Dane has edged towards the top of the leaderboard, most notably in Perth and Leopard Creek where he got his best finish for some time, a sixth. Still throws in MCâs but if heâs in the mood, worth a quid each way.
Best Of The Rest
Last yearâs event was a washout shortened to 36 holes with a reduced par and with more rain forecast on Wednesday Thursday and Friday conditions could be somewhat similar last year. Matthew Nixon 100/1 tied fourth on that occasion and with a T2 in Russia and two solid made cuts at Glendower and Leopard Creek in the past couple of weeks, is worth a look.
Simon Wakefield 80/1 is another, like Rich Finch, who cruised through Q School recently and kept up the momentum with a T7 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship and is well worth keeping an eye on again this week.
