2013 Hong Kong Open Betting Preview Tips and Predictions

Miguel Angel Jimenez 15/2

Jimenez funny pic[5]_thumb[1]Can old Miguel grab one last European Tour win for the ages? If it is to come, this is one of the few courses where it can happen. The Spaniard is a three time champion in Hong Kong and has a game perfectly suited to this place. After some indifferent performances towards the end of the season, The Mechanic fired back with a tied 8th at the Tour Championship which included two rounds of 66 on the Jumeirah Estates. Don’t count the legend out!

Marcus Fraser 16/1

I like Marcus Fraser each way this week though the odds of 16/1 are a little short. The Aussie hasn’t won since The Ballantine’s in 2010 but he always seems to play well in Hong Kong. He’s been in the top 11 in four of the last five stagings, always seeming to throw in one low round along the way. Scored his best ever finish of third last year with a final round of 64.

Peter Lawrie 60/1

If there’s one aspect of the game you need to be a success in Hong Kong its putting. And they don’t come much better in that department than Ireland’s Peter Lawrie. Tied for fourth in 2012 and seventh in 2009. With his card secured by the narrowest of margins last season, Peter will be determined to get off to a hot start this time around.

hongkngRichard Finch 66/1

Richard Finch at 66/1 this week? What’s that all about? Unless the bookies have seen Rich running around the streets with a bottle of champagne celebrating his second place finish at the Alfred Dunhill last week, I wouldn’t be so quick to discount his chances this week. Finchy has been in good form since a tied seventh in Perth and was strong over six days at Q School. If he’s on that leaderboard on Friday night, I’d have a punt.

Scott Hend 50/1

Another long odds shot to watch out for is Aussie Scott Hend who has played most of his season on the Asian Tour. Okay his form of late hasn’t been stellar but Hend lies in second place in the OOM behind Kiradech Aphibarnrat and has notched up three wins in the process.

Best Of The Rest
Great putting performances traditionally win the Hong Kong Open and you wont see as much acreage of putts holed anywhere else.  I’m personally tracking the form of Florida via Waterford’s Kevin Phelan 100/1 in his first starts on the European Tour and will of course be cheering on our GCD Diarist David Higgins 125/1 who is one of the best short game exponents on the circuit. Best of luck guys!
