Horsemeat Burger Scandal- McIlroy Tweets Picture Of Self With Frankel
In his first post since securing Paul McGinley the European Ryder Cup Team Captainâs job using social networking site Twitter earlier this week, Rory McIlroy has waded into the UK & Irelandâs horsemeat burger scandal by tweeting a picture of himself grazing in the paddock with Frankel, rated by handicappers as the greatest racehorse ever.
âJust chewin d cud wit my mate @frankelwonderhorse today! Rors says no to equine Big Macs!â McIlroy wrote to his nearly 1,500,000 Twitter followers, attaching a link to a Twitpic photo of himself bareback riding an oblivious looking Frankel. âJust headin out for a few furlongs. #gallopinwithmybud.â
The tweet has sent the Supermarket giants guilty of substituting horses for cattle, Aldi and Tesco, scampering for cover. A spokesman for the retail giants said âWe promise Mr. McIlroy never to put horsemeat in burgers ever ever again. It was never our intention to upset Mr. McIlroy and would like to assure him we are doing everything we can to insure horsemeat is replaced with meat from dead cattle in all our burgers from here on out. The last thing we wanted was to be on the receiving end of an influential McIlroy tweet.â
Within hours, the picture had been retweeted by social media giants Bruce Critchley, Denis Pugh and Luke Donald.
