Golf Digest Ireland’s Top 100 Golf Courses 2014. The Complete List

Image
Brace yourself! It’s always controversial but there’s are new number one on top  of the GDI Ireland’s top courses list. Portmarnock is now officially the best course in the country replacing Royal County Down in the top spot. GDI say 80 members of the golfing public were selected to contribute to the vote and made up to 30% of the vote. Less than 25% of all the clubs in country, when asked if they had any improvement work etc actually bothered to respond. Among the top 10, The European Club has dropped to 9th, Ballyliffin Glashedy (11th) has inched ever closer to the top 10, with Belmullet, Old Head and Rosapenna’s Sandy Hills all making big gains. David Duval said he will step away from the game if he doesn’t produce in 2014

Image
If there is a poster boy for just how cruel golf can be, it's David Duval. The former No. 1 player in the world went from British Open champion to basic obscurity in a span of just a couple of seasons, randomly pinging our radar like he did at the 2009 U.S. Open where he finished second, but mostly just landing as a trivia answer as one of the few people to take the top ranking from Tiger Woods. Duval, ranked 1521 in the world now, knows his golf game just isn't what it used to be but that isn't stopping him from giving it one more go this next season in hopes of earning a PGA Tour card for 2015. If he fails to accomplish that goal, the 42-year-old said he will figure something else out to do with his life. He expressed all this on Twitter, explaining that he has worked hard on his game this past season and hopes that the exemptions he lands in '14 will help him earn a full PGA Tour card for the following year. Here are a few select tweets Duval sent out earlier t...

Monumental European Tour Cock Up On Teebox Sees Granberg DQ, Huldahl Ejected Mid Swing, Then Asian Carrying Own Tour Bag

Image
I’m betting this story sent to me by a player this morning wont be appearing on the European Tour’s website. You may have already heard about Joel Sjoholm’s adventurous morning to get onto the first tee but there was another more bizarre and somewhat cruel incident at the Hong Kong Open on the European Tour today.  The furore was triggered by some of the field being slated to start on the 11th tee (not the 10th tee), and with no shuttles to or from the tee, it was bound to cause confusion between players and caddies. It kicked off when Joonas Granberg was left standing on his first tee box, the 11th, about to start.  His caddie had gone to another tee (presumably the first or tenth) with his clubs, leaving Granberg holding his putter and panicking as the clock ticked up to then past the official tee off time.  With several referees scrambling about, Granberg’s caddie eventually made it to the tee, three minutes too late.  The luckless Fin was summarily disqu...

Nelson Mandela Championship Betting Preview and Tips

Image
Note: Starts Wednesday 11th December- Saturday 14th December Richard Finch 30/1 Following a great showing at the Perth International (T7) Finchy has come through Q School with flying colours and has set about avoiding it next year by already scoring a solo second at the Alfred Dunhill Championship and a T8 last week at the Hong Kong Open. There’s a massive chance this week for the Englishman to bag his first win since the 2008 Irish Open.   Romain Wattel 25/1 Hard to believe that Romain is already on 80 European Tour starts this week and he’s definitely a star for the future. The Frenchman clocked up five top 10 finishes during the 2013 season including going close at The Ballantines and in Austria. Started the 2014 season with a T3 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship and following a week off should be right up for another tilt at a maiden Tour win.   Stuart Manley 50/1 Bookies obviously think Stuart Manley doesn’t have much of a chance this week, but I beg to differ....
