Golf Professional Wes Mensing, 27, Killed in New York City Accident - Golf Channel (press release) (blog)
Wes Mensing, recently named by Golf Digest as one of Americaâs Best Young Teachers, was struck and killed by a car Saturday in New York City, according to local media reports. He was 27.
Mensing was the director of instruction at Plainfield Country Club in Edison, N.J., which this year will host the PGA Tourâs Barclays. Two months ago, he was recognized by Golf Digest as one of the top 40 instructors under age 40.
According to New York City police, Mensing and a woman were crossing the intersection of East 62nd Street and Lexington Avenue at 7:45 p.m. when they were struck by an SUV. Mensing was pronounced dead at New York Hospital, while the woman, 30-year-old Erin Sauchelli, was listed in stable condition. Â
The 45-year-old male behind the wheel received a summons for driving without a license.
Mensing graduated from Methodist University in 2009 and worked as an instructor at the Jim McLean Golf School in South Florida before being hired as the director of instruction at Plainfield.Â
