President Obama apologizes after his golf plans move Army couple's Hawaii ... - U-T San Diego
A day before their Hawaiian wedding, two Army captains heard from President Obama that he would not be able to attend.
Then they heard they would have to change their venue because of his golf plans.
Couples and others planning events at the site are routinely advised that the president's vacation visits may disrupt their plans, so the captains, who are stationed in Hawaii, switched their venue; wedding planers moved the ceremony from the 16th tee box on the golf course on the Marine Corps Base Hawaii, which Obama regularly plays, to what Bloomberg News called "the lush, green lawn near the home of Colonel Eric Schaefer, the commanding officer of the base, which offers an elevated view near the 16th hole."
Bloomberg broke the story, but others quickly teed off Monday.
Cue the golf puns and playful headlines and the personal apology from Obama, who has played five rounds of golf at the venue in 10 days on his vacation.

Not that Natalie Heimel and Edward Mallue Jr. needed help remembering the day, but this will help. They invited Obama "on a lark," Bloomberg said, because they knew he was in town. The president's RSVP saying he wouldn't make it wished the couple well.
âIt was kind of ironic they got the letter from them and then, within hours, they were told they had to be moved due to him,â Jamie McCarthy, Mallue's sister, told Bloomberg. âIt was emotional, especially for herâ"sheâs the bride and in less than 24 hours they had to change everything they had planned.â
From the Bloomberg story:
After Bloomberg Politics inquired about the scheduling conflict, Obama put in a personal call to the bride.
âHe apologized and congratulated them,â McCarthy said, adding that it was a âwonderful talk.â
âWe were all there, it was perfect,â she said. âMade their day.â
News reports noted Obama and the White House didn't know in advance a wedding had been planned at the venue Sunday.
