Rickie Fowler has a new Scotty Cameron Newport II putter.  And there’s no bells and whistles, no bright orange paintjob and no embossed nicknames.  Last night his mate Bubba went on Piers Morgan to discuss politics and gay athletes and today Rickie is ditching orange. They must finally be growing up! This is the simplest putter you’ll ever see. Pics from golfwrx Technorati Tags: Rickie Fowler Scotty Cameron Newport II Putter 2014 , Pics

Froch Groves II Ticket Information 31 May 2014

Image
Carl Froch and George Groves will meet again on May 31 2014 after controversy shrouded the first Battle of Britain.  As GCD readers will probably know, as well as golf I’m a huge fight fan and am appealing to anyone with ticket information or can get their hands on some to get in touch. I will follow all the announcements on  Ticketmaster but judging by past efforts, don’t hold out much hope. Contact me on twitter here or through facebook messenger here for information or help with tickets.  No problem with sponsored posts, advertizing etc on golfcentraldaily in return. Froch wants the fight in the 36,000 seater City Ground in his home of Nottingham, while Groves, is reportedly pushing for Stamford Bridge. Old Trafford, Emirates Stadium and Upton Park are also possibilities to stage the fight. Wembley is unavailable.  The bulk of the fight revenue is expected to come through Sky Box Office TV rights. The Cobra passed up the chance to meet Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr...

Padraig Harrington May Miss Masters For The First Time Since 1999

Image
By guest writer ZB He may be the only person on the planet that thinks it, but Padraig Harrington still believes he can reignite his career, even though the 42-year-old Dubliner has been in the doldrums for the last few years. Harrington’s golfing career has had a strange trajectory â€" good and disappointing in equal measure, apart from that unbelievable 13-month spell between July 2007 and August 2008 when he won two magical Open Championships and the PGA Championship. Since his success at the Oakland Hills Country Club though it has been downhill for Padraig and he has now sadly  gone 66 months without a win on either the US or European Tours and slumped to 133rd in the world rankings. Indeed Harrington needs to secure a victory in a big tournament soon or he will not even be able to take part in the Masters in April. At one time unthinkable, that would be quite a comedown for a man who has been an ever present at Augusta since 1999. However, he has failed to make the cut at...

There were a lot of hole outs on Thursday at the Northern Trust Open

Image
The tagline behind the PGA Tour for a long time was "these guys are good," but at this point you know that. They are absolutely incredible golfers that pull off brilliant shots each week, with that definitely being the case during the opening round of the Northern Trust Open. Scoring at Riviera on Thursday wasn't incredibly low during the opening round, we just saw a lot of golf shots find the bottom of the cup from off the green. We begin with Jordan Spieth, who knocked this wedge in from 124 yards on the 7th hole for the rare eagle. Jim Furyk was out of position on the second hole, but was still able to make birdie after this incredible shot went in from 151 yards. Now begins the greenside brilliance of these players. Webb Simpson made eagle out of a bunker that was so deep you could barely see him in it. Martin Laird got a little lucky from a bunker when his ball crashed into the pin and stayed down for the birdie. Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño joined the gre...

IBF: Tiger Should Ditch Sean Foley And Trackman On The Range

Image
Respected analyst Ian Baker Finch had his say to Reuters on Tiger Woods 2014 swing and is not enamoured.  He thinks Woods is too preoccupied with crunching Trackman numbers with Sean Foley instead of just getting out and playing golf every day.  It’s the second downer on Foley after Lee Westwood left him this week. Follow @golfcentraldoc "Tiger has issues with his swing. He keeps blaming his putting, but it's not his putting (that is the problem). It is his swing, and he needs to sort that out." "Tiger should shoot a score every day until his next tournament, not hit perfect shots on the range with Sean and TrackMan (a radar device players use to assess their swings)," said Baker-Finch. "Just go play golf and enjoy getting it in the hole in the lowest number possible. I think that's what he used to do when younger." So what does swing expert Finch think is wrong with the five time winner in 2013’s swing. "He doesn't look in sync to me...

Video: The Two Sides Of Bubba Watson. Serious On Piers Morgan, Bubba On The Late Show

Image
Bubba Watson did his third Piers Morgan interview last week and also appeared on the Late Show (with new host David Livingstone’s brother   Craig Ferguson).  The interviews could not have been more different. Watson first took on the topic of politics in the Olympics.  Then it was on  to openly gay sportsmen. ''It's sad that somebody has to feel like they have to come out,'' Watson said. ''I don't believe you should be compelled to come out. They're just people like me and you trying to make a dollar and have a good living.'' Follow @golfcentraldoc He then spoke of his nerves “I would be less nervous in your chair as I am over a three-foot putt.'' And here’s Bubba’s throwaway 9 minutes on the Late Show where he talks about shoes and things. Technorati Tags: Bubba Watson Video , Peirs Morgan , Craig Ferguson
